NIT Kurukshetra is one of the premier technical institutes of the country. Founded in 1963 as Regional Engineering College Kurukshetra, the institute was rechristened as National Institute of Technology on June 26, 2002. The institute offers 4-year B.Tech degree course in seven engineering streams and 2-year M.Tech degree courses in 22 areas of specialization of science & technology, and post graduate courses leading to the degree in MBA and MCA. In addition to providing knowledge in various disciplines of engineering and technology at the undergraduate and post-graduate levels, the institute has excellent facilities for research in the emerging areas including Nanotechnology, Ergonomics,  Robotics, CAD/CAM, Energy and Environment. The infrastructure is geared to enable the institute to run out technical personnel of high quality. The placement record of the institute has been commendable and consistent due to strong vigor and commitment to generate talent.

Major placement rules (Session 2016-17) to be followed strictly:

  • There will be one person one job policy, irrespective of status of company/PPO/off campus. Efforts will be made to first invite companies offering higher package. On the basis of package or profile, there will be no relaxation in this rule. Therefore, the students should be careful for the selection of a company.
  • Any student finally screened but waiting for declaration of result cannot sit for other companies. In case of time gap between the test of selected candidates and their final interview, if a candidate appears in between for any other company, he/she will lose claim for the previous company, if he/she gets selected in between.
  • Every student will be asked to fill up the mass database form for registration with details including %age/SGPA/CGPA/reappear (wherever applicable). The students are required to fill up the data carefully. Any student supplying wrong information may be debarred from the placement process at least for one semester.
  • The students should be careful while applying for placement process of a company. Any case of furnishing wrong information will not be tolerated. In case of reappear, student will have to indicate reappear, e.g. one reappear in a semester as "1(R)".
  • The students are required to bring the original documents for verification of data in the T&P Office.
  • The students are required to attend the PPT of a company in which they have registered for the placement process, otherwise attendance benefit will not be given.
  • No student is allowed to argue with company officials. Any complaint by a company official will be taken very seriously.
  • The students should be formally dressed in the T&P Cell.
  • The placement timings for girls will be as per Girls Hostel timings. The girls can be allowed beyond hostel timings only under compelling circumstances, in case the security to girl participants is ensured/provided.
  • The timings of T& P Cell shall remain from 9am to 10pm daily except Sundays/ holidays.

Duties of PAC member

A PAC member becomes a PAC Coordinator when he/she handles a company. Following are the duties of a PAC member/PAC Coordinator as related to training of 3rd year students, internship/placement of 6th semester MCA students and placement of final year students.

  1. Educate 3rd year and final year students about rules and regulations governing training and placement process.
  2. Help in preparing student database of 3rd year and final year students for training/placement purpose which would subsequently be verified by T&P Cell.
  3. Create PAC, 3rd year, final year google group for quick information spread related to training and placement activities.
  4. Suggest companies to which invitation needs to be sent for training and placement purpose.
  5. Send invitation/JAF/SIF to allocated companies through the Placement Cell with a copy to TPO.
  6. Interact with allocated company officials to fix dates for placement process in consultation with Prof.-in-charge/Dy. Prof.-in-charge. Ask company HR to send filled up JAF/SIF and send confirmation mail for the allocated date so that same may be included in the list of visiting companies.
  7. Apprise company officials about the prevailing T&P rules.
  8. Prepare and send the list of students interested for placement and eligible as per requirement of the company by verifying credentials of students maintaining training and placement policy and upload on google group of the batch the list of candidates shortlisted by the company for training/placement process with copy to TPO.
  9. Take good care of company officials by arranging boarding and lodging facility in the institute guest house. Inform guest house well in advance about boarding requirements of company officials.
  10. For off campus visit for pool campus at NITs, arrange for institute bus, if possible.
  11. For visiting NIT students for pool campus, send request for hostel accommodation.   
  12. Do venue management for PPT/online test/written test/GD/interview in CCN/Computer Deptt. Lab/T&P Cell/Senate Hall/Jubilee Hall/Exam Hall/Guest House etc.
  13. Ensure attendance of all the registered/shortlisted students in PPT, test, GD and interview.
  14. Give list of students appearing for placement for a company to T&P Cell for attendance benefit.
  15. Ensure smooth conduct of online/written tests.
  16. Ensure that the students appear in interviews in formal dress.
  17. Maintain girls’ hostels and T&P cell timings.
  18. Announce selection result in consultation with company officials and update placement register.
  19. Maintain decorum in and around T&P Cell (no celebration and distribution of sweets/eatables).
  20. Report matters of indiscipline to TPO and advise on penal action against students found guilty of any misconduct.
  21. Take feedback from the companies visiting the campus.    

Any deviation by PAC Coordinator from the process and policies governing training and placement shall invite strict disciplinary action.

Guidelines for students

  1. The students should continually check the T&P notice board and google group for update.
  2. All the students should fill in the mass database form for registration with details for name, father’s name, roll no., branch, contact no., e-mail address, gender, category, DOB, hometown/address, 10th and 12th marks, graduation marks, and SGPA/CGPA/reappear in various semesters (for B.Tech - 1 to 5 initially, 6, 7 later) in the institute. All are required to fill up the data carefully.
  3. The students should keep on updating semester results in mass database available with PAC members and T&P cell. The students must submit their semester results whenever the same is available. Students who do not do so, may not get chance to appear for a company due to non-availability of result.
  4. Any student supplying wrong information may be debarred from the placement process at least for one semester.
  5. The students should submit their applications within the deadline announced by PAC coordinator. Late submissions may not be entertained.
  6. One should apply to an organization only if he/she is eligible and interested in taking up a job in the organization. No subsequent withdrawal of application shall be entertained.
  7. The students are advised to go through the company website to get more insight about the company and judge their suitability for the job. Any queries must be clarified with the company officials during the company presentation only.
  8. The students can clarify their doubts with either the student coordinator or placement officer.
  9. The students are advised to report in time for PPT, written test and interview. Any late entry may not be allowed.
  10. The students must present their identity proof before appearing for a company.
  11. The students must carry their certificate file along with passport size photographs and a copy of their resume for the interview.
  12. The students should be formally dressed while appearing for interview.
  13. Every student appearing for the written test will have to compulsorily sign the attendance sheet. Shortlisting of candidates after the test will be done on the basis of attendance record. Also, the attendance benefit will be provided in accordance with the attendance record.
  14. During the interview, no students except those shortlisted for the interview and the coordinating PAC member(s) put on duty, are allowed to be present in the T&P cell. The shortlisted candidates should wait in the waiting room for interview.
  15. Any student found to have indulged in any kind of indiscipline during placement procedure may be debarred from the placement for the whole year.
  16. The students should maintain silence in and around the T&P cell.
  17. The students should maintain decorum and their activities should not disturb the functioning of various offices in the building especially during announcement of the placement result (no celebration and distribution of sweets/eatables).
  18. The students should not argue with company officials; any complaint by company officials will be taken very seriously.
  19. The student getting second job (if applicable) should inform one of the companies well in advance about surrendering their job offer as per requirement of the company.
