1. Proficiency classes for Competitive Programming

The department organizes special classes for improving proficiency in Competitive Programming under the supervision of Dr. J.K. Chhabra.  These special classes are held beyond Institute working hours in each semester.  The interested students are grouped into two categories:  Beginners & advanced and separate classes are held regularly for both groups. 

Some of the final year’s sharp students guide their juniors in these classes on all major topics needed for competitive programming as well as reputed programming.  These classes are being organized regularly since last 5 years & due to these programming skills of the students have improved significantly.  

ACM-ICPC Contest: The students of the department are regularly participating in most reputed ACM-Inter Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) & Performing very well in all rounds.  Each year, more than 10 teams participate in ACM-ICPC Contests of Kanpur, Chennai, Kharagpur, Amritapuri & Gwalior.

  1. Research and Industrial Collaborations

Department has been actively interacting with Industry for overall development of the department and students to be specific from industry perspective.

  • DRDO and TBRL Chandigarh

The faculty of the department is interacting with DRDO New Delhi for collaborative and sponsored research in the area of software engineering, cryptography, cyber security and networking. A team of DRDO including Directors of some important divisions visited NIT Kurukshetra in Jan 2017 and interacted with the faculty of department. Some open research problems were identified and proposals for the sponsored projects from the department have been already sent to DRDO New Delhi. Similar process is in progress with TBRL Chandigarh.

  • CDAC (Pune & Mohali)

The department is in the process of collaborating with CDAC Pune to strengthen the department in the area of Super Computing and an MoU with CDAC Pune is being signed for the facilitation of the dept in the area of advanced/parallel computing and research using supercomputer Param Shavak. Similarly, department is in touch with CDAC Mohali for collaborative R & D work and faculty members of the department has visited CDAC Mohali in the month of Sep 2017 and interacted with their experts.

  • Giga Byte Solutions -Networking Domain

Department collaborated with Giga Byte Solutions in the area of network simulation and a workshop was conducted by their engineers for the effective use of Netsim for research and development activities in the area of networking during 22-24 May 2017, which was attended by approx 40 participants of the dept.

  • Giga Byte Solutions -Cloud Computing Domain

Department recently initiated to set up lab facilities in the area of cloud computing and department has made an understanding with Giga Byte Solutions to develop a lab in this domain. As an initial step, a workshop on Aneka Software was conducted by the Industry for the department faculty and students during 25-26 May 2017.

  • Infosys- Campus Connect

Under this program of M/S Infosys Ltd. faculty and students of the department undergo training workshops on recent advances in ICT and Software Engineering.  Infosys conducted a workshop on "Agile Software Development" at NIT Kurukshetra during July 2014, which was attended by more than 20 faculty members of the dept.



NIT Kurukshetra is one of the premier technical institutes of the country. Founded in 1963 as Regional Engineering College Kurukshetra, the institute was rechristened as National Institute of Technology on June 26, 2002.
