Overview:

The Department of VLSI Design and Systems Engineering stands at the forefront of innovation and excellence in microelectronics, VLSI, and embedded technologies. Established as the School of VLSI Design and Embedded Systems in 2013, the department has rapidly evolved into a hub of advanced learning and research, offering premier undergraduate and postgraduate programs tailored to meet the dynamic needs of the Electronic Automation, Healthcare and Semiconductor industries.

Academic Programs:

  • B.Tech. in Microelectronics and VLSI Engineering

A cutting-edge undergraduate program designed to equip students with a strong foundation in microelectronics, semiconductor devices, and VLSI system design.

  • M.Tech. in VLSI Design

Launched in 2007 (originally under the ECE Department), this flagship postgraduate program offers in-depth training in VLSI circuits, system design, and EDA tools, making it one of the most sought-after courses in the institute.

  • M.Tech. in Embedded Systems

A specialized program focusing on the design, development, and deployment of embedded systems across various applications, from consumer electronics to automotive and IoT.

  • Research Opportunities

The department also offers PhD and research opportunities to motivated scholars in the fields of VLSI, Embedded Systems, Microelectronics, and their applications in healthcare, fostering cutting-edge innovation and interdisciplinary research.

  • Research and Funding:

The department has a rich legacy of research excellence, being selected for prestigious national initiatives such as:

  • SMDP-II (2006-2013):

Received a grant of ₹60 lakhs from MeitY, Government of India, to  increase manpower, knowledge, research and skills in VLSI and allied domains.

  • SMDP-C2SD (2014-2021):

Received a grant of ₹65 lakhs from MeitY, to further strengthening our research, manpower and  infrastructure for chip to system design.

Industry Collaboration:

Our department maintains strong industry linkages, including a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Semiconductor Laboratory (SCL), ISRO for collaborative work in IC design and fabrication. Students benefit from exposure to real-world projects and state-of-the-art fabrication facilities. Our students have been designing and developing ICs and publishing research articles.

 

State-of-the-Art Infrastructure:

Students and researchers have access to world-class Electronic Design Automation (EDA) tools and Hardware  platforms, in the department,  that include::

  • Cadence ,
  • Synopsys ,
  • Mentor Graphics,
  • VIVADO
  • TCAD
  • Embedded and FGA Design H/W…and many more.

These tools, provided by MeitY, enable hands-on learning, design and  research .

Placements and Internships:

Our students consistently secure internships with attractive stipends and full-time positions at leading semiconductor and electronics companies, such as:

  • AMD, Samsung, Cadence, Synopsys , Qualcomm, NXP, Intel, Texas Instruments, NVIDIA, Infineon, Micron …and many more.
