NIT Kurukshetra organized a distinguished guest lecture on “Ethics in Teaching”

 

 

 

The National Institute of Technology Kurukshetra organized a distinguished guest lecture on “Ethics in Teaching” by Dr. Gururaj Karajagi, Chairman of the Academy for Creative Teaching, Bangalore.

On the occasion, Dr. (Smt.) Tejaswini Ananth Kumar, Chairperson of the Board of Governors of NIT Kurukshetra shared her perspectives on the importance of ethics in academia. She emphasized that institutions must cultivate an environment where ethical values are deeply embedded in teaching, research, and governance, and encouraged faculty members to uphold the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.

The session was attended by 126 faculty members including Prof. Brahmjit Singh Director (Officiating) and Prof. Vinod Kumar, Registrar I/C, who actively engaged in deliberations on strengthening ethical practices in higher education.

In his address, Dr. Karajagi highlighted that teaching is inherently an ethical and value-driven profession. He stressed that beyond imparting knowledge, teachers play a crucial role as mentors in shaping students’ character, judgment, and professional conduct. Emphasizing mentoring as a core responsibility, he noted that meaningful teacher–student engagement fosters trust, critical thinking, and responsible decision-making among learners.

He briefly outlined key principles of ethical teaching, including academic integrity, fairness in evaluation, respect for diversity, and the creation of an inclusive learning environment. He also underscored the importance of transparency, self-reflection, and consistency in academic practices, while encouraging educators to remain grounded in values amid evolving educational challenges and technological advancements.

The session featured insightful examples that prompted reflection among faculty members on their dual role as educators and mentors. Participants appreciated the relevance of the discussion in reinforcing ethical awareness in teaching and academic leadership.

The lecture was effectively coordinated by Dr. Sandeep Kumar Sood and Er. Yogveer Lamba under the able guidance of Prof. Sathans Chairman, Sahayog Committee. It concluded with an engaging interaction among faculty members. The formal vote of thanks was delivered by Prof. Sathans, Chairperson of the Sahayog Committee, who expressed gratitude to the speaker and dignitaries for their valuable insights.

The event reaffirmed the institute’s commitment to promoting value-based education and strengthening ethical standards in teaching, mentoring, and institutional practices.
